There are times in everyone’s lives where we are forced to make a change. These transitions are often the cause of incredible distress in one’s life. Although this may seem very lonely, you are not alone. You may feel lost and without a plan, but you are not alone. Don’t be discouraged if you feel like you don’t have it figured out, just take it one day at a time.

Starting over may seem like one of the most daunting tasks you will ever face. Whether you are coming home from prison, overcoming loss, moving to a new city or recovering from trauma, you may feel like starting over is impossible. Life-changing events can negatively impact people in such a way that it may cause people to fail to see hope for their future.

There are many reasons why a person may need to start over in their life. Regardless of the reason, getting a fresh start at life or choosing to embrace a new season may be the best thing for you. Here are a few ways to get started.

starting a new season of life

Writing Your Goals – As you identify what motivates you, take time to chart your future goals. This key step will truly give you vision for your future. These goals, from small to large, will offer a blueprint on the canvas of your future. Take a new notepad and dedicate it to your goals. As you begin to use your goal planner, be sure to revisit it as you make steps to your goals and asses ways to reach them.

Be Courageous – When you approach a new season of life, it may feel like you are the new kid at school all over again. Change can be immensely difficult to navigate. One thing that will be required is courage. This will give you the gumption to stick through the tough moments in life. Your inner strength will help you overcome the obstacles you will face as you start over.

Find a Mentor – No one should go-it-alone. Especially in new seasons of life, it is crucial to have a support system behind you. A mentor will help you build your new future. A mentor can thus motivate you, inspire you and hold you accountable. If you do not have a mentor, take a look at your network and evaluate who may be a good fit for your mentor.

As long as you are breathing, you are still writing your story. Don’t allow the negative parts of your past to define your future. You have the unique opportunity to wipe your slate clean and create a new legacy for you and your family’s future.
