In the midst of COVID-19...
Many of us have been asked to pack up our things and learn to work from home. Working from home can be a challenge because there are so many potential distractions. Your spouse, children, pets, television, and so on are all calling your name. But you still need to be productive. So what are some good tips to working from home?
SET YOUR HOURS
The first thing to do is to figure out what hours are best for you to work. Or does your company/organization already have set hours for you? Figuring out what hours you are going to work is important because it allows you to plan ahead for what you need to do and when. It also can serve as a good heads up to your surroundings (spouse, children, etc.) that you are going to be busy during these hours.
CREATE AN OFFICE:
Setting up your own personal office can be extremely helpful to keeping a good level of production. If you have the space available, making an office away from all the distractions works best. Maybe there is a room the children aren’t allowed in, or there is some unused space in your house/apartment. Essentially, just try to find a place away from the high traffic areas of your house (kitchen, living room, etc.) because it will keep you productive and less tempted by the distractions in your home.
CREATE BREAK TIMES:
Even though you’re working from home, you still deserve a break. Even if it’s just 15-30 minutes to have some lunch. No matter what you do, you are still working from home. If you’re married or have children, there is still going to be times where they need you. Thus don’t be afraid to take 5-10 minutes every so often to go help out. Most employers have become quite understanding of the situation we are all in.
By following these 3 quick tips, working from home doesn’t have to mean less productivity. However, everyone’s situation is different. Therefore, don’t be afraid to try out new things and find what works the best for you!
