There are only a few things in life that are certain. One of those things is change. Change is inevitable. Throughout our lives, we will deal with both good and bad changes. It’s stressful and oftentimes, quite intimidating. While many of us fear change, it’s important that we learn to embrace it.
Acknowledge the change:
The first step in dealing with change is acknowledging that it is happening. What sort of changes is happening in your life? Are they good or bad? We spent too much time fighting change that we forget to simply accept that it’s happening. No matter what things may be changing in your life, acknowledge that they’re happening, and tell yourself it’s okay. You can even try writing the changes down.
Cut yourself some slack:
As we’ve already mentioned, change is stressful. We get so overwhelmed by it sometimes that we start to be hard on ourselves. We tell ourselves that it’s not okay that something is changing, that we won’t be able to deal with it. Take a minute and just breathe. Be in the present and give yourself a break. You’re dealing with new feelings, new changes, and the unknown all at once. Cut yourself some slack and remind yourself, “I’m going to be okay.”
How much can you control?
Ask yourself this very simple question, “How much can I control?” Change is inevitable in our lives, which oftentimes means there is a lot of things that are out of our control when it happens. Find out what things you can control and worry less about the things you can’t.
Find a strong support system:
One of the best ways to deal with anything in life is to have a strong support system around you. Your support system is your friends, family, loved ones, or just anyone that you feel you can trust. Having a strong support system will help stay on your feet during stressful and hard times. However, they are also there to help celebrate exciting and good things that happen in your life too. There is no shame in needing a little help from those you care about.
Remember the positives:
When in doubt, find the positives in any situation. Even in some of the most stressful and difficult times in your life, you can find positives. It’s important to focus on these positives because they help you see the light in dark times. They will also keep your mind focused on the right things, rather than the stressful things which is a great way to keep your mental health in a good state.
